As some of you may know, I like to rant a tad. Today I would like to rant about an interview I heard on Coast to Coast AM with George Noory. John Kachuba was the guest, and I was taken aback by some of the things he had to say about the field of paranormal investigating.
First off, he has no clear cut opinion on anything paranormal. In my opinion, if you are considered one of the leaders in the paranormal field, you should have at least an opinion. Certainly not all or any real answers, but at least an honest opinion. Oh, wait a minute! He did have at least one opinion. He believes that the investigations being conducted are not scientific, nor can they be scientific. Merely inquiries into the paranormal. Mr. Kachuba stated "For something to be a science, you have to be able to demonstrate a phenomena, and replicate a phenomena at will repeatedly. With the same results all of the time. We cannot do this with ghost hunting. What I would really like to see, is that we get off of the idea that we have to have an E.M.F. detector, or E.V.P. to explain the existance(of ghosts), because it really doesn't seem to be doing it". He goes on to say"Why do we need that. Why do we even need the science behind it. we are witnessing something, people all over are having these experiences. Does it matter if it can be proven scientifically or not. I cant prove that air exists. I can't see it, I can't taste it, but they say it's out there. I'm breathing it so, I guess it's there". WHAT!!!!!!?
I love to listen to various paranormal investigators give their views on the paranormal, but this interview was painful. I literally had to pause the interview and replay certain portions, just to reaffirm what i heard this"leading paranormal investigator" say. I guess all we have to do is believe in ghosts, and believe in other peoples ghost stories, and ghosts really do exist! Who needs substantiated proof? Bah!! Wow!! The one and only Question I have is, Why is he even in the paranormal field?
This interview aired on 08/11/09. If you would like to listen to this interview, log on to http://www.coasttocoastam.com. Thanx for letting me rant, DIGGER. :ugeek:

I just found this site, and I had to register to say lmao in agreement.
Not all of science is being able to produce phenomena at will, it is more a matter of being able to consistently get data off a phenomena. In a lab one is able to control events, but there are sciences that are in the field too. Sometimes the scientist has to wait for phenomena to happen, and hope that it happens in such a way that they can get useful data off it. The study of weather and earthquakes are great examples of this. Scientists can make models, but they can't produce it at will in the natural environment, where all the best information is collected.
And duh, of course using instruments that can record data is smart, especially because this is an evolving field. Why wouldn't one use devices that can record light, sound, temperature, and various frequencies/energies/fields? That is what we have been experiencing forever with our human senses, we just can't dip into our brains for a recorded playback to study (yet :) )
And as far as the air statement goes, that is just ignorant. I guess by that logic gravity doesn't exist either.
In my opinion, statements made in the interview sort of bolster the view that paranormal things are for the ignorant and superstitious, and not something that is real, real enough to warrant a serious notion of scientific or technological exploration.

Sorry, that was a rant for my first message on the board, but it felt good :)
Gonna go introduce myself now, lol

cheers
